Villa in Lindos

The Mediterranean gardens at Lindos Villa Venus

We personally believe that our gardens play a major part in creating a truly Greek Island atmosphere, & are genuinely an extension of our home. Having painstakingly planned, toiled & nurtured the gardens at Lindos Villa Venus, we have brought together an enviable collection of Mediterranean & dry climate flora & fauna. Stroll through dwarf palms, striking cacti & yucca alongside colourful displays from bougainvillea, callistemon, lantana, fragrant herbs & more. The gardens are regularly & carefully tended by our management team so that our guests can enjoy them as much as we do.

There are many wonderful homes & villas to rent on Rhodes, so how do we raise the bar? Take a look through our gardens for a snippet of what you will find in a truly Mediterranean backdrop to the Greek Island experience as its supposed to be.
Lavish gardens to front & rear include an ancient olive tree (500+yrs) as a focal point, lemon, orange & mandarin laden with fruit (in season) or full of fragrant blossom during growth.
Pick your own fresh local herbs or citrus fruit straight from the tree. Rosemary, oregano, thyme, sage, mint, basil, garlic or maybe a chilli or two during different times of the year.

To the South (sea) facing rear, the pool is wrapped in a tiled terrace, layered with mature flowering shrubs, ornamental olives & exotic rarities. A potted herb garden provides fragrance & fresh bbq ingredients. Wander around the pool, past striking mature cycad & plumeria to the end of the garden for views out & across the azure blues of Vlicha Bay.

Often hard work to establish & maintain but ultimately rewarding. Several genus of Bougainvillea thrive in pots & ground providing summer long flowers, striking colour & shade as a true representation of Greek Island tradition. The perfect photo backdrop & no Mediterranean garden would be complete without one.

On an island of summer drought & limited resources, we are passionate in the development of ecologically sustainable gardens. High impact xeriscape alongside indigenous species thrive in the climate & water wise approach. This one, a prime example of a verified import species perfectly adapted to the heat, growing from the size of a tennis ball to offspring of its own & abundant flowers. A dedicated cactus garden is home to other striking specimens. Look but don't touch!

Yucca seem to love it here, from the ubiquitous Spanish Dagger, the eye-catching striped Gloriosa, right through to the rarer & harder to please Beaked Yucca. Dormant during the hottest part of the year, spectacular flower spikes of 2m or more appear overnight towards late summer.

Ornamental olives, pygmy palms & callistemon vie for your attention around the pool. Providing atmosphere, interest & privacy, aiding us to instinctively push the boundaries of generic holiday retreats. Bland, low maintenance sterility has been slowly replaced by natures finest, softening the edges & making the all important difference.

Throughout spring & summer, giant hibiscus flowers from several varieties grace the front garden. Having consciously chosen to omit lawn grass from our gardens (thereby minimising the nuisance of mosquitoes, midges etc) the huge colourful blooms brighten many a morning coffee taken on the cool shaded terrace.

Indigenous Mediterranean species provide year round interest. Ground cover & constant flowers from several genus of lantana wind their way through the borders & around many striking succulents. Stunning plumeria (frangipani) with fragrant scented blooms provide a constant source of interest to butterflies & tiny coloured gecko.

Natures complement to the contemporary styling of the villa, conceived to enrich the laid back Greek Island lifestyle. We have enjoyed many months of trial & error, success & failure in turning a building site (2008) into a Mediterranean garden which we are proud to share. As always, a work in progress & continually evolving, our gardens are expertly maintained with local knowledge & skills. Sit back, relax, unwind & enjoy!
