Welcome to Lindos, Rhodes (Rodos)

This section will give you an idea of some of the many places you could visit while staying in Lindos. Rhodes Island is approx 90km from North to South & is well serviced by safely maintained & well sign posted roads, so a hire car is highly recommended (see info page for links) to fully appreciate all it has to offer. If you prefer, safe, reliable & efficient public transport or licensed taxis are plentiful, so getting around should be a pleasure rather than a chore, if you choose to do so. If not, soak up the endless sunshine by the pool or on one of the many local beaches.

Lindos

The famous Acropolis of Lindos is the most well known of all ancient sites in the Dodecanese and attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world. Dating back to the 5th century BC, the tiring but exhilerating climb up the many steps from the village & amphitheatre below afford a part of ancient history & spectacular views of Lindos & beyond from within the castle walls. Having undergone painstaking restoration work in recent times, a visit to Lindos would be incomplete without seeing it.

Out & About #03Alongside the historical factors, Lindos itself is a picturesque & vibrant resort centred around the whitewashed village clustered below its dominant Acropolis. The rich & famous own some of the most spectacular 'captains houses' that date back centuries & perch on the cliff edge overlooking the beaches below. Protected from over development by the EU NATURA program the area retains its bygone charm, while still offering visitors all they need from a 21st century holiday resort. Crystal clear seas lap the sandy beaches at Lindos Bay & the smaller Pallas Beach where watersports, boat trips & facilities are abundant. Lindos comes alive by evening, & the many rooftop restaurants & tavernas offer a variable & extensive range of International or Greek cuisine. Or take advantage of the bustling but unobtrusive nightlife. The cobbled pedestrian village itself is a sprawling labyrinth of narrow streets & alleys, with local shops, market stalls, bars & restaurants alongside everyday essentials such as mini-markets, cashpoints, pharmacies & internet cafes etc.
St Pauls Bay, with its quiet sandy beach nestling in a dazzling blue cove, was once a natural harbour, & its small chapel is very popular for overseas weddings. Many thousands of picture perfect holiday memories are recorded here.
St Nicolas (Navarone) Bay, with its famous & majestic cliffs lies adjacent, & offers visitors peaceful, picturesque & natural surroundings nestled amongst a mountainous landscape.
Vlicha Bay, is a well kept secret. The sparkling, clear crescent beach adjacent to Lindos is both tranquil & unspoilt. Easy access to Lindos & many other popular local villages alongside excellent facilities make this is a 5* location from which to experience the very best of Lindos & South Rhodes.

Something Different

Petaloudes (Valley of the Butterflies)
A narrow inland gorge & woodland glade which is home to thousands of butterflies from June to September, when they literally cover the area. Popular with tourists who flock to see this natural phenomenon, & wander through the shaded canopy of the trees. Though many people visit, it remains a peaceful & fascinating place. There are small refreshment kiosks, although many choose to picnic.
Epta Piges (Seven Springs)
Another inland sanctuary, where you will find a small lake fed by seven springs (epta piges) surrounded by lush green woodlands. There is a small shaded taverna overlooking the stream, past which parade the local ducks geese & peacocks. A pleasant, different & unique place to visit. Both approx 30 - 40mins from Lindos.

Out & About #09

Monolithos Castle

Monolithos castle sits astride Monopetra, a needle of grey rock rising to over 235m (750+ ft). This is no fairy tale castle, but a real life impregnable fortress built by the Grand Master d'Aubusson. The thick walls thread around the top and inside is the white church of Ag Panteleimon. Steps lead up from the car park below the castle to an area enclosed by the walls. From the top, take in the spectacular views along the coastline and out to the offshore islands including Halki.
Take care & sensible footwear! Although the site is a must see & a perfect photo shoot, there is also a vertical drop of 700 feet in places.
